The third oldest general hospital in the United States and the oldest and largest hospital in New England, Mass General continues its tradition of excellence today.
Our 907-bed medical center, located in the heart of Boston, offers sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic care in virtually every specialty and subspecialty of medicine and surgery. We offer high-quality care and services in four health centers in the Boston area. The hospital also holds concurrent Level 1 verification for adult and pediatric trauma and burn care.
Mass General is the original and largest teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, where nearly all of our staff physicians serve on the faculty. Since the hospital’s founding, Mass General has been committed to training and mentoring the next generation of international leaders in science and medicine, providing a wealth of opportunities for physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, physical, occupational and speech and language therapists and other health professionals. These talented men and women, in turn, lend fresh and innovative perspective on how to treat and care for patients.
The oldest provider of pediatric services in Boston, Mass General Hospital for Children (MGHfC) has provided comprehensive, compassionate care to children since 1821. The mission of the MGHfC Pediatric Residency Program is to develop independent, innovative pediatric leaders through education and personalized mentorship in a supportive academic training program. We are committed to excellence in family-centered clinical care, research, and advocacy. Our training program teaches residents to provide state-of-the-art patient care in diverse settings. Residents see both common and rare presentations of pediatric illnesses on our 44-bed pediatric inpatient floors, 27-bed well infant nursery, and 17-bed special care nursery. They then learn how to care for children who require more specialized or intensive care when they rotate through our state-of-the-art 21-bed Level III NICU and 14-bed PICU at MGHfC. The MGHfC Pediatric Emergency Department is also an incredible learning environment as the only center in the region with simultaneous designations as a Level I adult trauma and burn center and Level I pediatric trauma center.
